SOLOMON NORTHUP'S ODYSSEY
Directed by Gordon Parks
New 4K Restoration by IndieCollect Directed by the legendary Gordon Parks and based on Northup's 1853 memoir, this tour de force recounts the true story of a free Black man kidnapped in 1841 and sold into slavery. The film predates 12 Years a Slave by 30 years and equals its narrative power. Originally broadcast on public television as part of the "American Playhouse" series, Solomon Northup's Odyssey was never seen in theaters—until now. For this new 4K restoration, IndieCollect scanned the original camera negative and did extensive color correction in consultation with DP Hiro Narita. The restoration was made possible with support from Ford Foundation/JustFilms and Golden Globe Foundation. On opening night and during this exclusive week-long theatrical run, special guests, including members of the production and restoration team, will introduce the film and discuss its significance. Q&A on Friday, 4/3 at 7pm with Warrington Hudlin, co-founder of Black Filmmaker Foundation and Eva Yuma, restoration colorist, moderated by Sandra Schulberg, founder of Indiecollect
